Hitchhiking – Climategate – Swineflu – Mandatory Vaccinations

November 26th, 2009

Just a quick video as it will be one of my lasts.  I will be leaving Mexico shortly and will be selling off all my stuff to buy warm weather gear once I cross the border.  I’ll post a couple more vids this weekend before I take off as a lasting centament of my time spent here in Acapulco.  I’d like to thank all of those that have followed my journey over the last year and half!  I more than likely won’t be publishing much on the next set of my journey as operating costs for my websites has overtaken the amount of advertising and donations that I receive.  I will be returning to the United States to look for work and to prepare for my next journey which should be next summer.  I have become very lazy in my travels and feel the need to do a regular job for a few months to regain my momentum.  Once again thank you all very much and thank all that I have met and that have given me rides!  I look forward to bringing more stories to you in the next chapter of my life.  peace

Online Hitchhiking is it dangerous?

November 4th, 2009

the-hitchhikerI recently read a couple articles about how “Online hitchhiking” is a dangerous trend. These articles seemed to be a copy of each other from local news sources in Phoenix Arizona. In the article they speak of “Digital Hitchhiking” as being “Very dangerous”. Whats funny about the articles, is that they give up an example of a craigslist killing that occurred when a woman responded to a nanny job. What does job hunting and hitchhiking have to do with each other. I fail to see the connection. I know that many people feel that any type of hitchhiking is dangerous but I beg to differ. With the hundreds if not thousands of people I’ve met over the past couple years, nobody has said anything to me about feeling like their life was threatened. There is common sense in this type of travel just like anything you do in life. Its just seems another way to point fingers at some class or group of people that isn’t the norm in society. It really does pain me, because most of the people I have met in this lifestyle are much better people than the lawyers, doctors, or corrupt law enforcement agencies. I could compile a list of professions or lifestyles where morals of the individuals should be questioned more than a hitchhiker or someone desiring to hitchhike. I believe its in our desire to explore and discover that leads a majority of us to this. If this desire was never acted on we may still be living in times of very poor quality of life. We can go on with telling people what to do or what not to do, as it seems is more and more these days. Taking away our freedom to travel and try to enjoy life may be one of the last real great freedoms we’ll have. Telling people that it is very dangerous is ridiculous. Its dangerous to drive your car, to walk down the street, and many more things more dangerous than trying to help people out by offering free rides on the internet. Free is word that has a lot less value these days. Everything coast something I guess. peace

Hot Potatoe

I walked maybe 2 miles east on US-2 before finding a nice place just off the highway to pitch the tent. I had a good night sleep even though the weather at night in this northern region is starting to get pretty cold. The next morning I walked a couple miles farther east on US-2 before finding a spot in the shade to setup and start flying a sign to travel towards Michigan. A few cars went buy and slowed but didn’t stop while sitting for about 30 minutes. I was digging through my pocket to grab a quick smoke when one of the cars that passed me up had turned around and stopped on the other side of the highway. I was surprised that someone actually stopped to be honest. I hadn’t been feeling much in the mood to hitchhike the past few days and that usually seems to be projected outwards. When I feel tired and off it seems that I get less rides. I imagine its because I seem less happy on the side of the road, possibly even grumpy. None the less I got a ride from this guy named Tom that is an electrician working on a multi-million dollar resort project on Priest Lake in northern Idaho. While riding down the road and bull shitting, he offered a place to stay for the night at this new project. I accepted to check out this awesome place. We talked till about midnight or so coming up with a design for the new website he wants me to build for him.

Now its morning and he had to get to work, so he dropped me off at a local coffee shop, gave me a $100 to have for the days spending cash and told me to wait for him to get done with work. He is checking with his boss about getting me some work here for the week. Either way, Tom also owns a bunch of vacation rentals in Oaxaca Mexico. He’ll be heading south for the winter in 2 weeks or so and has offered me a ride down with him and a job down there while I get my business stuff going online. I’ve been really excited about this! I’m not making solid plans at the moment but I’m definitely showing interest. His plans are to get a restaraunt/bar that like Senor Frogs but in Oaxaca Puerto Escondido started building this winter. Thats the reason for wanting a website online. So I’ll continue to hang out here in northern Idaho until I figure out exactly I’m gonna do. I’ll build his website for him regardless, but I’ll only stay in this area if his boss hires me on for the week. And if he hires me on I’ll more than likely be heading down through Mexico with him and spending some time there to build up more money!

Across Washington

About a hour before a guy named Eric gave me a ride half way to Spokane. In a small town on the bank of the Colombia river I chatted with some locals and met a another couple that was hitching down towards New Mexico. I ended up getting a ride after many hours there. The girl that picked me up was heading to Spokane so she brought me right to the house of Ian. I met Ian on a hitching forum. Spent the night in his yard, drinking a few beers and meeting some of his friends and family. Had a nice time there and a friend of his brought me a little ways out of town to get me started the next day hitching again. That day I wasn’t much in the mood to hitch around so I just looked for a good camping spot and caught up on some rest. The next morning I didn’t make it to far down the road before getting picked up by a couple younger guys heading to a barter fair. I took them up on their offer and went to the barter fair to see if I knew anyone out there. The barter fair was about 12 miles off of US-2 so the next morning I started walking back to US-2 to continue hitching east. That leaves me at my current location. A small Store & More place off the side of 211 in northern Washington. They happened to have wifi so I figured I’d try to update this before continuing my walk back to US-2. I guess I have about 5 1/2 miles back to US-2 so should be there in a couple hours after I leave this store. Will write more once I get into Idaho or Montana.. Peace.
